Doors provide safety and add beauty to our homes.  Ready made doors work like solid barriers in the wall for privacy and accessibility between rooms.  These doors are available in different material, shapes and designs like Iron, PVC, wood or aluminium in the market place. One of the best recommended materials is wood.

Main Entrance Doors

According to Vastu, the entrance door has a great importance in our homes, as this is a place where energies get in the house, like positive or negative. 

Tips for Main or Entrance Door:

• Main door opening should be a two shuttered one inside and the other outside. It should also be clockwise.

• Good quality wood for main entrance door.

• The main entrance door should be largest among others door.

• While we open or close door, the main door should be noise free.

• Entrance door should be well lighted.

Wooden Doors

Traditionally, in our homes, wooden carved doors are the best choice.  They are durable, attractive and are the best option in terms of safety to our homes. These doors are preferred in carved design to give an aesthetic look to our homes. Attractive look, less costly and easy availability of timber makes the look more superior to other material doors. There are three categories of wooden doors available in the market.

a) Paneled Doors

These doors are made of framed edges to get more panels.  Members which are vertical are called stile and members which are horizontal are called rail. Two to ten panels are required in a door as per the requirement of the architect. Panels are usually made of plywood; block board, timber or fiber board. 

b) Flush Doors

The look of these doors is becoming popular day by day. These doors are less in cost and are much better in strength as compared to panelled doors. They are considered for a high level of security and fire resistance.  These doors have style and elegance. These doors are easy to make. Every flush door undergoes through a machine to keep the dimension accurate and stable. This door can be polished or painted on either side. They provide good durability and stability while twisting.

c) Glazed Doors

These doors are made from wooden rails and stiles with glass panels as per requirement. Glazed doors are widely used in departmental stores, hotels and shops to attract customers or clients. Placing glazed doors has a spectacular effect by space and look in your home. One of the main advantage of glass is the see through effect internally connecting rooms making your home safer. For example in case of children’s room and kitchen, this is best option so you can be vigilant what is happening in closed doors. The glazed doors are manufactured the same way as panel doors but only difference is the panels. Glass panels are used in glazed doors and wooden panels are used in panelled doors. Presently, tampered glasses are used in frame less glazed doors.

Home is the place we all dwell in. From our very first memories to probably even the last ones, we all tend to be possessed with this eternal affinity for our homes. Besides being the epicenter of our intimate lives, it is also a part of our social identity. And what else, other than furniture, plays a detrimental role in defining the milieu that surrounds us.  Yester years were defined by the architecture and style of furniture that adorned the courts and palaces of aristocracy. Travelers and visitors from other kingdoms would often extol the design and craftsmanship of the wooden masterpieces. No wonder, those palatial handiworks would soon be in vogue with their commercial spin-offs trickling down the social hierarchy.

Renaissance period is particularly noteworthy in the history of furniture. It is a well known fact that Renaissance was a socio-cultural movement that heralded in Florence and later swept the whole of Europe. The era marked the reincarnation of Greco –Roman philosophy and ideas. What began as a revivalist movement, Renaissance also had an indelible impact on the domiciliary ambience. The Renaissance era furniture was a fusion of subdued Greco-roman design blended with the Byzantine high-refined embellishments. The furniture was characterized by large and stately proportions, rectilinear forms, and impressive decorations.

One piece of art that characterized the era was the cassoni. Despite the fact that it was exorbitantly expensive, cassoni was a household item that was owned by members of all social classes. Although meant for the professed purpose to store goods, they were in reality used simply for decoration. The relic, often dark and elaborate, was made from gesso and wood. The chest would be emblazoned with intricate design and artwork. The noble families of those times often employed the best sculptors to produce the finest cassoni for them.

 Other pieces of furniture were similarly rich in style. Wooden Carved Doors had square lintels and were generally set within an arc. Door Designs were dwarfed by an overhead triangular or segmental pediment. Home furniture, made from willow or walnut wood, would be bedecked with inlays of gold, ivory, marble and other precious elements. It is also worth mentioning that some of the furniture was also relatively grotesque, often sculpted to resemble odd-looking gargoyles and monsters, to make them seem amusing. Chairs used to be the hallmark of wealth and prosperity in those days. They were usually designed to suit the grandeur and opulence of the elite who owned them.

With the passage of time, everything has very much changed. Just like all other things, newer and contemporary furniture designs have dislodged their revival style counterparts. Aristocracies might have faded into oblivion but the love for the bygone-era artifacts associated with them has withstood the test of time as it continues to draw awes and oomph’s from the patrons and critics.
